The Faculty of Physical Culture and Sports was founded in 1964 on the basis of the Karaganda Pedagogical Institute. The faculty prepares highly qualified specialists who contribute to the development of military-patriotic education of young people and a healthy lifestyle in the region. Today the faculty has good conditions for high-quality training of bachelors and masters of sciences in the programs “Physical culture and sports” and “Basic military and physical training”.
Over the years of its activity, the faculty has prepared more than 10,000 specialists in physical culture and sports. Graduates of our faculty successfully work in the Republic of Kazakhstan and abroad. Many of them have become outstanding athletes, teachers, coaches, researchers, heads of subordinate structures of the ministries of the Republic of Kazakhstan and leaders of the physical culture and sports movement. The faculty is justly proud of its graduates who have received academic degrees and contributed to the development of science.
The faculty includes 3 specialized departments: theory and methodology of physical culture and sports training, basic military training and martial arts, physical education.
Currently, the faculty has a well-developed sports base, which is used in the training process. The faculty has created high-quality conditions for conducting academic studies and trainings. There are large educational and training complexes with specialized halls for gymnastics, wrestling, boxing, sports and games halls and gyms, a ski base and an athletics arena. On the basis of the university, there are more than 30 sports sections in 24 sports, in which more than 3000 students and university teachers are engaged. Faculty students regularly take part in competitions of various ranks and are multiple winners and prize-winners.
Dates and facts
History
The history of the formation and development of the Faculty of Physical Culture and Sports of the Karaganda University named after academician Ye.A. Buketov is closely connected with the history of the formation of the physical culture movement in the region and in the Republic. The initial stage of the formation of the Faculty of Physical Culture at the university dates back to the end of the 50s of the last century. An acute shortage of specialists in physical culture and sports in the Central Kazakhstan led to the opening in 1959 of the department of physical education at the Biological Faculty of the Karaganda Pedagogical Institute, which in 1964 was transformed into the Faculty of Physical Education.
Since 1996, the faculty has become a part of the Karaganda State University named after Ye. A. Buketov. The students of the first enrollments were mainly high-class athletes and were part of the combined teams of the region and of the Republic.
Outstanding graduates of the faculty are currently famous athletes, teachers, coaches, leaders of the physical culture and sports movement: Yesmagambetov Z., Gromov V.D., Khalilin Ye.B., Nurkazov S., Stepanenko A., Orumbayev B.I., Nabiyev V., Baimagambetov Yu.T., Bekmagambetov T.O., Kargin S.T., Ramashov N.R., Zhulin A.N., Rogachev A.A., Menlibayev K.N., Glukhov S.I., Tleubayev L., Snegurov I. and others.
Winners and participants of the Olympic Games, winners and prize-winners of the World, Europe, Asia, USSR and RK Championships studied at the faculty at different times: Olympic champion in weightlifting Yu. Students:
- more than 900 students. The number of students in 2020-2021 academic year increased by 11.5% compared to the last year;
- more than 1/4 of students study by state educational grants;
- annually about 300 students enter the faculty;
- students from foreign countries and different regions of the Republic of Kazakhstan study at the faculty;
- the employment rate of graduates is over 80%.
Teachers:
- more than 50 teachers, including doctors, candidates, masters, masters of sports;
- 9 holders of the republican title “The best teacher of the university”.

Alumni association
The Association includes graduates from different years. It promotes the strengthening of partnerships between the faculty and the corporate environment.
