The department trains teachers of mathematics and computer science on the basis of modern educational and information technologies. Students of the department have the opportunity to study in two directions: Pedagogical Mathematics, Mathematics - Informatics. The training program for the first direction includes such relevant disciplines as Methods of teaching Mathematics, Elementary Mathematics, Practical work on solving mathematical problems, Practical work on solving non-standard problems, Fundamentals of mathematical literacy, History and Methodology of Mathematics. Students study the disciplines of Programming Technology, Programming in Python, Computer Graphics and Animation in the second direction. The department provides teaching of information and communication technologies in English at all faculties of the university.
Graduates can work in schools, lyceums, gymnasiums and colleges; educational institutions of technical and vocational education, in organizations, institutions and services of the industrial and non-industrial sphere, specializing in mathematics and computer science.
The department's research interests are related to the study and application of innovative technologies in mathematics and computer science classes, methods for solving mathematical problems, and programming languages.
Dates and facts
History
The department was founded in 1972. Experienced teachers, methodologists, namely senior lecturer of Mirau Boris Eduardovich (head of the Department 1952-1972), Ph.D., Associate Professor Baymurzin Seitkali Baymurzinovich (head of the Department 1972-1976), Ph.D., Associate Professor Kostrikina Nina Petrovna (head of the Department 1976-1993) were at the origins of the department. In different years, the department was headed by Associate Professor Bertiskanova Kamshat Tursunovna, Associate professor Syzdykova Nazym Kosarbekovna.
The department has been teaching Mathematics, Higher Mathematics, and Computer Science since 1994. The department has started training bachelors in the educational program 5B010900-Mathematics since 2004, in the educational program 5B012700-Mathematics-Computer Science since 2018. Graduates of the department have the opportunity to continue their education in the master's program in the specialty 6M010900-Mathematics.
Students:
Educational programs of the department are in demand. The contingent of students enrolled in the educational programs of the department for 3 years was: in the 2018-2019 academic year - 206 students, in the 2019-2020 academic year - 223 students, in the 2020-2021 academic year - 238 students.
The main contingent of students are graduates from the Karaganda region (Balkhash, Temirtau, Zhezkazgan), as well as South Kazakhstan, Western, and Pavlodar regions, participants of the Serpin-2050 program. The department trains foreign students from Uzbekistan, Mongolia, and Azerbaijan.
Students of the department are awarded with prestigious scholarships and prizes at subject Olympiads:
- The student Zhumagul D. was twice awarded the scholarship of the First President (2019, 2020).
- The student A. Torgayeva was awarded the prize named after Mustafin.
- Students Mergenbay M., Ryskul B., Zhumagul D. took the 3rd place in the team competition at the Olympiad in Mathematics.
- 2nd year student A. Akhmetshin was awarded a diploma of the 1st degree for participation in the competition of scientific projects (Penza), 3rd degree, Almaty.
- 3rd-year students Aman N., Otesh E., Torgayeva A. participated in the contest "Ustaz tilegi" held by the Republican Scientific and Methodological Center, and became holders of diplomas of the 1st degree.
- Student A. Akhmetshin took 1st place in the Republican Olympiad in Higher Mathematics held by the Karaganda Technical University in 2021.
- Students of the department take part in external and internal academic mobility. They studied at universities in Romania, the United States, Russia, and Kazakhstan.
Teachers:
The department employs 20 teachers, including 6 candidates, 4 PhD doctors, 8 Masters of Science. Among the staff of the department there are the winner of the medal named after I. Altynsarin, the winner of the republican title "The best teacher of the university", 3 winners of the prize named after Professor Mustafin T.G., the owner of the badge "For merits in the development of science of the Republic of Kazakhstan", 4 awarded Honorary diplomas of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Accreditation and leadership:
The programs of the department have national accreditation of the Independent Agency for Quality Assurance in Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan and occupy worthy positions in national ratings: 5B010900-Mathematics takes the 2nd place in the IQAA ranking, the 8th place in the Atameken ranking; 5B012700-Mathematics-Computer Science - the 1st place in the IQAA ranking.
Employment opportunities:
Graduates of the department work in schools, gymnasiums, lyceums and other educational institutions in Kazakhstan. Some graduates work in the NISH of Karaganda.
The employment rate of graduates is 98-99%. Graduates of the department study in the master's and doctoral programs in KarU, ENU named after L. N. Gumilyov, KazNU named after Al-Farabi, in the branch of MSU and other universities of Kazakhstan.

Many graduates have received awards and scholarships: Gulmanov N., a 2nd-year doctoral student, received the title of "Best Teacher of 2019".
Nipruk E.V. working in the specialized boarding school named after N. Nurmakov, became the winner of the Shapagat medal of national significance for her contribution to the development of education in 2019, was awarded a first-degree Diploma at the republican competition of mathematics teachers, was awarded a certificate of honor of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan for her contribution to the development of education in 2017, became a participant in the project "100 new faces".

The Department cooperates with Tomsk State University (Russia, Tomsk), Tomsk State University of Control Systems and Radioelectronics (Russia, Tomsk), L. N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University (Kazakhstan, Nur-Sultan). The department has signed memoranda with schools, gymnasiums, lyceums of Karaganda. Students of the department pass pedagogical practices in all regions of Kazakhstan.
Educational programs
6B01501-Mathematics: Bachelor's degree. The program is related to the study of the basics of Higher Mathematics, methods of teaching mathematics, and the psychological and pedagogical cycle of disciplines. In the course of training, the student will learn how to organize and conduct educational work, experimental work on the problems of teacher education; generalization and dissemination of the experience of innovative training; implementation of organizational activities in educational institutions. Graduates receive a Bachelor of Education degree and can work as Math teachers in various types of educational institutions.
6B01502-Mathematics-Computer Science: Bachelor's degree. The program is related to the study of the theory of fundamental sections of mathematics and computer science, methods of teaching mathematics and computer science, and the psychological and pedagogical cycle of disciplines. The student will acquire knowledge in highly specialized areas of computer science; learn to apply modern pedagogical technologies in teaching mathematics and computer science; plan and carry out research work in the field of pedagogical sciences; use software and computer technology. Graduates receive a Bachelor of Education degree and can work as teachers of Mathematics and Computer Science in educational institutions of various types, as well as mathematicians-programmers.
6В01502.1 "Mathematics-Physics": bachelor's degree. During the educational process, the student should be able to freely connect the received theoretical knowledge with the actual problems of modern science and education development, independently describe physical processes with the help of mathematical apparatus, explain the main theorems and conclusions. higher mathematics in an accessible form, chooses the most effective methods of solving mathematical problems, fully understands physical phenomena, learns to create a structured sequence of received knowledge for analysis. Students have the opportunity to study some subjects in English. Graduates receive a bachelor's degree in education and can teach in schools, colleges and tutoring centers.
