Students of the department have the opportunity to study in four trajectories within each specialty: "Objects of biotechnology", "Fundamentals of Biotechnology", "Medical Biotechnology", "Industrial Biotechnology"," Environmental aspects of Natural Science"," Ecology of animals and plants", "Environmental monitoring", "Ecological Biogeography".
The training program includes such relevant disciplines as: "Processes and devices in biotechnology", "Fundamentals of pharmaceutical biotechnology", "Engineering support in biotechnology", "Plant Biotechnology", "Mathematical modeling in biotechnology", "Cellular biotechnology, "Biotechnological design", "Biotechnological research methods", "Ecologiyaly Biologiya", "Ecologiyalyk Zhobalau", "Yerekshek orgalatyn tabigi aimaktar", "Klimattyn ozgerui zhane zhasyl ekonomika", "Ekologiyalyk korlarga kirispe", "Radiatsiyalyk ekologiya", "Zhakhanadyk ekologiya", "Aleumettik ekologiya zhane turakty damu". Students will receive special knowledge in the field of biological, environmental, technological, and biotechnological sciences.
The department has extensive experience in multilingual education. Graduates of the department will be able to work in general education institutions, laboratories, clinics, pharmaceutical companies, environmental organizations, and in the healthcare system.
The scientific interests of the department are related to the study of problems of biology, zoology, physiology, and ecology.
Dates and facts
History:
The Department of Botany was organized in 1956. Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, Professor A.A. Kornilov was appointed the first head of the department, a year later there was appointed Candidate of Biological Sciences A.I. Levchuk (1957-1973). At that time, Kalyakina P.I., Dzhumabayeva Sh.B., Starikovskaya M.F., Abdrakhmanov O., Sazonova A.I. worked at the department. On the experimental field of the department, there were special botanical departments: an arboretum, an orchard, a collection nursery, a department of floriculture, crop production, wild flora of Central Kazakhstan, greenhouses where plants of the country's landscape zones, including subtropics, were grown. The agrobiological site was used for breeding and research work, and it was also used for educational and research work of students.
The scientific work of the department was aimed at the geobotanical study of the flora of Central Kazakhstan, the study of medicinal plants of the region, the introduction of some medicinal and beautifully flowering plants into the culture and their introduction. Much attention was paid to the study of the rational use of plant resources and their protection, the current state of the landscapes and ecosystems of the region.
Teachers have trained hundreds of thousands of specialists-botanists, biologists, ecologists, farmers, zootechnicians for the Karaganda region and the Republic.
Teachers:
Currently, the department employs 18 teachers, of whom more than half have scientific degrees; two have the republican title of "Best University Teacher" (Professors Bekishev K. B., Ishmuratova M. Yu.).
Over the past 10 years, the staff of the department has published 16 monographs, 23 textbooks, 36 teaching aids, and published more than 1000 scientific articles.
Students:
The share of students of the department at the faculty is 40%. Representatives of different regions of Kazakhstan, Russia, Mongolia, China, Uzbekistan, and the United States are among the students. Graduates of the department quickly find a job; continue successful training in the master's program.
Accreditation and leadership:
The educational programs of the department are accredited by the Independent Agency for Quality Assurance in Education, and occupy favorable positions in the national ratings.
Partners:
The department actively cooperates with foreign universities Ben Gurion (Israel), Altai State University (Russia).
Educational programs
6B05102 Biotechnology: Bachelor's degree. The program is related to the study of medical, food, and environmental biotechnology. In the course of training, the student will learn how to develop the basic scheme of the biotechnological process, optimize the conditions for the production of medicinal substances, analyze the possibilities of using monoclonal antibodies, gene therapy, investigate mutagenic factors of various nature, determine genomic, chromosomal and gene mutations, apply biotechnological methods to improve agricultural indicators, use methods for preserving significant biological objects. The student will master the methods of biotechnology, which are used in the food industry, for environmental protection.
Students have the opportunity to study some of the subjects in English. Graduates receive a bachelor's degree in biotechnology and will be able to work as specialists, laboratory assistants at biotechnological and food enterprises, research institutes and universities, technologists in production laboratories, biotechnological breeders in the agricultural sector, specialists in environmental services and organizations.
6B05201 Ecology: Bachelor's degree. The program is related to the study of the basic laws, theories and concepts of ecology. In the course of training, the student will learn to assess the consequences of anthropogenic impacts on the biosphere and modern biosphere processes, linking their effectiveness with evolutionary historical processes, apply methods of analysis and prediction of physical and geographical characteristics of the environment, plan new aspects of economic activity taking into account the requirements of the "green" economy, analyze scientific information, analyze plant communities, work with herbarium material, monitor the environment.
Students have the opportunity to study some of the subjects in English. Graduates will receive a bachelor's degree in ecology and will be able to work as ecologists by industry, an environmental inspector, an environmental engineer, a specialist in nature protection organizations, an ecologist-laboratory assistant in research and educational institutions, an environmental manager.
