The interactive forum "30 Years of Scientific Dialogue: From Tradition to Innovation" was held at the Zh. Akylbayev Science and Technology Park at Buketov National University. The event was timed to coincide with Science Day of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the 30th anniversary of the founding of the scientific journal "Vestnik of Karaganda University."
As part of the forum, a large-scale exhibition, "The History of the Vestnik," was organized. It allowed participants and guests to visually trace the key stages in the evolution of the university periodical: from the first historical issues of 1996 to the current issues indexed in the international databases Web of Science and Scopus.
Chairman of the Board – Rector, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Professor NurlanOrynbasarovichDulatbekov addressed the participants with a welcoming speech. In his speech, he noted that today, one of the key indicators of the national university's high status is its internationally recognized scientific journals.
"The scientific community of Kazakhstan has always highly valued the quality of our periodicals. Today, we are proud to announce that 30% of our university's journals are included in the international Scopus database. All publications are recommended by the Committee for Quality Assurance in Science and Higher Education (KOKSNVO), confirming their high academic status.
The publications' influence has long extended beyond Central Kazakhstan – they serve the entire republic. This is natural, given our transformation from a regional university to a National Research University. I would also like to highlight our international collaborations: together with the rectors of leading universities in Indonesia, Uzbekistan, Russia, and China, we have published a journal on physical education and sports. We are currently preparing to launch a new journal on linguistics.
We are steadily moving toward achieving the status of a trusted publisher, which will cement the university's role as a guarantor of the quality of scientific publications at the national level and confirm that we have all the necessary competencies to develop a fully-fledged publishing ecosystem.
I congratulate you on the holidays – Science Day and our 30th anniversary. I am confident that our joint efforts will bear fruit, and the number of our journals in global databases will only grow. We have everything for this – ambition and, most importantly, a strong creative team. I wish everyone success and new scientific achievements!"
The ceremony was continued by Board Member and Vice Rector for Strategic Development, YerbolZhanbyrbaevichSarmurzin. He presented honorary diplomas to those who were at the publication's origins and continue to develop it today. The event also recognized the best representatives of the scientific community in special categories: the "Quality Shield" award for the journal's best reviewer and the "Golden Pen" award for the publication's best author. The diplomas were presented to the nominees by SerikSagimbekovichKasymov, Director of the Science Department.
The forum continued in two parallel sessions: the "Researcher's Digital Footprint" Workshop and the "Scientific Foresight for Young Scientists" Networking Workshop.
Following the event, the results of the "Digital Breakthrough" online competition for the best graphic abstract were announced. Thewinnersreceivedtheirwell-deservedawards.
