The Department of Special and Inclusive Education trains specialists in the field of de-fectology and inclusive education. The department offers bachelor's and Master's de-gree programs.
Students of the department have the opportunity to study in the following directions: «Defectology», «Special and inclusive education», «Speech Therapy», postgraduates of the department: «Defectology», «Special and inclusive education», «Speech Thera-py» (2 years); «Special Pedagogy» orientation (profile) «Speech Therapy» (1 year).
The training program includes such relevant disciplines as «Special Pedagogy», «Inclu-sive education», «Basics of Speech Therapy», «Special Psychology», «Psychological and diagnostic methods of children with special educational needs». Students will gain knowledge in the field of special pedagogy and inclusive education.
The graduates of the Department can work as defectologists in schools and kindergar-tens with special and inclusive classes, correctional schools, rehabilitation centers, teach in colleges, institutes of further training, universities, engage in research activi-ties.
The Department provides the functioning of the Resource Center for Special and Inclu-sive Education of the University. Students and postgraduate students of the depart-ment are actively involved in its work.
The scientific interests of the Department are connected with the study of issues of professional training of future teachers of new formation for developing inclusive envi-ronment.
Dates and facts
History
The department was founded in 1984 at the Karaganda Pedagogical Institute , the second in Kazakhstan for the training of defectologists. Later it was expanded by the defectological faculty. The first head and founder of the Department of Oligophrenopedagogy is Academician of the International Academy of Sciences of Higher Education, Professor, Doctor of Psychology, Namazbayeva Zh.I. Over the years, the department was headed by leading scientists: Candidate of Medical Sciences, docent Duplyakin A.G.; Candidate of Medical Sciences, docent Shishkanov V.V.; Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences Akhtaeva M., Candidate of Medical Sciences Kispaeva Zh.K., Krasnikova N.A.; Candidate of Geological Sciences, Professor Dzhusupov S.I.; Candidate of Medical Sciences, Professor Akhmetova N.Sh., Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences Kolesnikova L.V.; Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Tebenova K.S.; Candidate of Biological Sciences, Associate Professor Alshynbekova G.K. Since 2005, the educational program “Defectology” has been opened at the master's level.
Since 2022, the educational program “Special Pedagogy” at the undergraduate level has been opened.
Since 2021, the Resource Center for Inclusive Education has been opened as a structural unit of the university to support students with special educational needs. The Center also provides scientific and methodological support for inclusive practice in the region, provides correctional and educational services.
Since 2022, the educational program “Special Pedagogy” has been opened at the undergraduate level.
Since 2023, the educational program “Speech Therapy” has been opened in the master’s program.
Teaching staff:
The teaching staff of the department consists of more than thirty teachers - doctors , candidates of sciences , doctors of philosophy and masters of sciences . Among them are the holders of the republican title “The best teacher of the university” , academician and corresponding members of various academies, holders of nominal prizes and scholarships.
Students:
The contingent of students in educational programs tends to be stable growth. Among the students are representatives of different regions of Kazakhstan and citizens of Uzbekistan, Mongolia .
Employability :
Graduate Employment Rate for Educational Programs annually ranges from 70 % to 82 % , which indicates the demand for personnel .

6В01901 - Defectology: bachelor’s degree. The purpose of the program is professional training of special defectologists / special teachers with fundamental knowledge and research skills for implementation of correctional and pedagogical activities in the system of general, special and inclusive education.
Graduates receive the qualification of a defectologist (teacher-defectologist, defectologist).
Sphere and objects of professional activity: special (correctional) schools, general education schools with special classes, classes with inclusive conditions, rehabilitation centers, correction rooms, speech therapy centers at preschool and school institutions, psychological, medical and pedagogical consultations, etc.
6B01902 - Special pedagogy: bachelor’s degree. The purpose of the program is professional training of special teachers with fundamental knowledge and research skills for implementation of correctional and pedagogical activities in the system special and inclusive education. The program has trajectories “Special and Inclusive Education” and “Speech Therapy”.
Graduates receive the qualification of a special teacher (special education teacher, teacher-defectologist, defectologist), minor - teacher-assistant. The sphere of professional activity is: general education schools with special and inclusive classes; kindergartens from ad hoc and inclusive groups; special (correctional) schools; rehabilitation centers; correction rooms; support rooms inclusive education; speech therapy centers at preschool and school institutions; psychological-medical-pedagogical consultations.
7M01902101 - Defectology: master’s degree. The purpose of the program is to prepare masters with fundamental and applied knowledge in the field special pedagogy, able to carry out correctional and pedagogical and management activities.
Awarded academic degree: Master of Pedagogical Sciences in EP “Defectology”.
