Akylbayev trains specialists in the field of energy and environmental protection, implements bachelor's, master's and doctoral programs.
Students of the department have the opportunity to study along the following trajectories: Industrial heat power engineering, Heat power plants, Life Safety, Environmental Ecology. The training program includes such relevant disciplines as Boiler installations and steam generators, Superchargers and heat engines, Turbine installations of thermal power plants, Heating and Heating Networks, Fundamentals of Radiation Safety, Technical regulation of industrial safety, Fire safety of residential and public buildings, Safety of rescue operations.
Graduates of the educational program can work at heat and power enterprises, environmental organizations, emergency and labor protection bodies.
The scientific interests of the department are related to the study of a number of problems: the development of an effective technology for heat removal from heat pump wells based on electrohydroimpulse technology, methods for replenishing water resources, electric discharge cleaning and activation technologies with a positive effect on the life of plants and living organisms, complex development, creation of technologies, manufacturing, theoretical and experimental studies of experimental samples of small wind power plants, electrohydroimpulse technology for processing oil sludge and oil-containing technogenic raw materials, alternative energy sources.
Dates and facts
History
The Department of Thermal Physics was organized and established in 1980 under the leadership, while dean and later rector of the university, the doctor of technical sciences, professor, academician of IHEAS Akylbayev Zh.S.
Associate Professor, Full Professor, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences Turmuhambetov A.Zh was appointed the first head of department, whose employment is inextricably linked with both the faculty of Physics and the department of Thermal Physics.
During these years, the department was headed by professors: Akylbayev Zh.S, DzhaychibekovN.Zh., Kusaiynov K.K., AntipovYu.N., Kurmanov M.K., and Associate Professor ShcherbakovYu.N.
The name of Professor Zh.S.Akylbaev was given to the Department in 2008. Training of thermal engineers for thermal power plants has been carried out since 1992.
Infrastructure:
Training work of the department is provided by 10 training laboratories, 2 scientific laboratories, 8 research laboratories, which use laboratory facilities and equipment: the wind tunnel with a diameter of 500 mm working part and air velocity of ~ 30 m/s, an electro-hydraulic installation “Iskra-N” aerodynamic setup for the study of flows in streams, pipes and channels, laboratory complex “Automated heating station ATP-01” for the study of thermal processes.
Scientific tradition:
The department and Faculty hosted 11 international conferences of "Chaos and structures in nonlinear systems. Theory and experiment", with the participation of leading scientists of research institutes and universities in Novosibirsk, Tomsk, Kemerovo, Yekaterinburg etc.This conference, held every 2 years, makes a significant contribution to the development of the science of nonlinear phenomena.
Students:
Today, the number of students is 289, including citizens of Ukraine and Mongolia.
Employment:
The figure for the last three years has increased from 87 to 100%.

The department employs 18 teachers, including doctors, candidates, masters, holders of the republican title "Best University Teacher": K. Kusainov, S.E. Sakipova, B.R. Nusupbekov, A.K. Khasenov, K.M. Shaimerdenova, D. Zh. Karabekova, N.K. Tanasheva.

Educational programs
6В07103-Heat Power Engineering: bachelor’s degree. The program is related to the study of technological processes of the energy industry, thermal power plants; systems of centralized and autonomous heat supply of industrial enterprises and organizations; systems of production and distribution of energy carriers; heating and heating networks; water and fuel treatment systems, product quality control systems, quality management system for enterprises. In the course of training, the student will learn the principles of management, taking into account technical and human factors, to determine the optimal ratio of the parameters of various thermal systems, etc.
The graduates receive a bachelor's degree in engineering and technology under the educational program "6B07103-Heat Power Engineering" and will be able to work at heat and power plants, industrial power plants (boiler stations, heating networks), as well as at all types of industrial enterprises for the maintenance of heating, ventilation, hot water supply and technological steam supply.
6B11201-Life safety and environmental protection: bachelor’s degree. The program is related to the study of tasks in the field of life safety, environmental protection and emergency prevention for enterprises of all sectors of the economy, including industry, agriculture and utilities, government agencies,production and consumption. In the course of training, the student will learn how to solve problems related to ensuring human safety in its interaction with the technosphere and the environment.
The graduates receive a bachelor's degree in services and will be able to work in the field of nature control, labor protection equipment, rescue equipment, conduct an examination and audit of the economic activities of enterprises and citizens, and assess the feasibility of the implementation of the object from the point of view of its safety for humans and the environment.
7M07109801- Heat Power Engineering: master’s degree. The program is related to conducting scientific research in the heat and power industry. The master's student will study disciplines related to the dynamics and heat exchange of multiphase media, heat technology, and information systems in heat and power engineering. In the course of training, the master's student will learn how to plan research work and evaluate its results, apply computer technologies for information processing in practice, use equations and reference databases to determine the thermodynamic properties of working bodies and heat carriers, in the thermodynamic analysis of processes and indicators of thermal efficiency of thermal power plants. Graduates receive a master's degree in technical sciences and can teach at the university, engage in research activities, work in the calculation and design and design field.
8D05303 - Thermophysics and theoretical heat engineering: doctoral studies. The program is associated with conducting scientific research and studying the physics and technology of electric energy conservation, renewable energy. The doctoral student will study the main problems of modern hydro-gas dynamics, selected chapters of discharge-pulse technologies. Graduates receive the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and can teach at the university, engage in research activities.
