The Department of Pedagogy and Methods of Primary Education trains primary school teachers in accordance with international requirements, who are able to carry out professional activities in the conditions of the updated content of education.
The department offers bachelor's, master's, and doctoral programs. Theoretical and practical disciplines in the field of pedagogy, psychology, teaching methods and management in the education system will be studied in the course of training.
Graduates of the department will be able to work in primary school as primary school teachers, methodologists, managers.
The department has developed scientific schools in the field of theory and methodology of professional education, general pedagogy, history of pedagogy and education.
Dates and facts
History
The Department of Pedagogy traces its history back to 1983. In the early 1980s, the primary education system developed rapidly. In this regard, there is an urgent need for highly qualified teaching staff in Central Kazakhstan. In order to meet the growing demand for specialists, in 1983, the Karaganda Pedagogical Institute made the first recruitment for the specialty «Pedagogy and methods of primary education». In 1984, an independent faculty of Pedagogy and Methods of primary education was established. Ph.D., Associate Professor S.K. Nurtakanov was appointed the dean.
Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences V.I. Korkina was elected to be the first head of the department, who led the department for 14 years.
Since 1984, the Department of «Pedagogy and methods of primary education» has started training teachers for primary schools in full-time and part-time forms. In 1987, the first graduation of students was carried out.
In 1999, the department opened a master's degree program in the specialty «General Pedagogy», and in 2001, the first graduation of undergraduates was carried out.
In 2001, a department was opened for obtaining a second higher education in the specialty «Pedagogy and methods of primary education». In the same year, the staff of the department «Pedagogy and methods of primary education» took part in the republican competition for the preparation of the State Standard for the master's degree in the specialty «Pedagogy».
In 2004, the Department of Pedagogy and methods of primary education opened a master's degree program in the specialty «Pedagogy and methods of primary education». In the content of the education of masters, the main attention is paid to the development of the disciplines of psychological and pedagogical and special cycles, in particular, the methods of teaching in higher education. The personnel and scientific potential of the pedagogical faculty allows you to manage the research work of masters at a high scientific level.
In 2006, the staff of the department took part in the development of the state standard of education in the specialty «Pedagogy and methods of primary education» (bachelor's degree, master's degree) and was recognized as the winner by the decision of the competition commission
In 2011, by the decision of the Academic Council, the Department of Pedagogy merged with the Department of Pedagogy and methods of primary education. Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor of the Department of Pedagogy and Methods of Primary Education Abildina S.K. was appointed the head of the department.
In 2017, the dissertation council (doctor in profile) was opened under the chairmanship of the Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor Abildina S.K., who now heads the department.
Currently, the department is headed by candidate of pedagogical sciences, assistant professor S.А. Odintsova.
Teachers:
Currently, the department employs 21 people, 62% of which have an academic degree. The department includes the holders of the republican title «The best teacher of the University of the Republic of Kazakhstan»; academicians of the Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the International Academy of Informatization of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the International Academy of Sciences of Pedagogical Education in Moscow, the Eurasian International Academy of Sciences of Ecology and Life Safety, the winners of the A. Nobel Medal for contribution to the development of invention, the T.K. Kamzabayev Prize, the gold medal «European Quality», the sign of «Y.Altynsarin».
Accreditation and leadership:
All educational programs of the department are accredited by the Independent Agency for Quality Assurance in Education. They occupy high positions in the national rankings.

The department actively cooperates with foreign partners, including professors of the International Institute of Professional Development of Teachers (Russia), St. Cyril and Methodius University (Slovakia), Baku State University (Azerbaijan).

Educational programs
6B01301-Pedagogy and methodology of primary education: Bachelor's degree. The program is related to the study of methodological, psychological, pedagogical and methodological foundations of the activity of primary school teachers. In the course of training, the student will learn how to solve educational tasks, apply forms and methods of teaching and upbringing in accordance with the age, psychophysical, individual characteristics and special educational needs of students; conduct scientific research; plan and conduct lessons on primary school subjects in the conditions of the updated content of secondary education; develop students' reflection skills. Students have the opportunity to study some of the subjects in English.
Graduates receive a Bachelor of Education degree and can work as primary school teachers, deputy school directors for educational and research work, and as a methodologist for the Department of Education for primary school.
7M01300301-Pedagogy and methodology of primary education: Master's degree. The program is aimed at training scientific and pedagogical personnel for the system of higher and secondary professional education, research and development. The graduate receives a master's degree in Pedagogical Sciences and will be able to teach and hold management positions in educational institutions of any level of education.
8D01301-Pedagogy and methodology of primary education: Doctoral studies. In the course of training, the doctoral student will learn to teach disciplines of the psychological and pedagogical cycle, to develop and implement methodological support in the educational process, taking into account the achievements of modern pedagogy and psychology, to organize and conduct scientific research on current problems of psychological and pedagogical science, to interact with all interested professional communities in order to promote and introduce innovations in professional activities, to carry out management activities taking into account the development of education and science. Graduates of the doctoral program are awarded the degree of Doctor of Philosophy PhD; they will be able to teach at the university, institutes of advanced training, work in research institutes.
