The Department of Fine Arts and Design trains bachelors in the field of graphic arts and vocational training, in the field of fine arts and design, as well as undergraduates for the system of technical and professional, higher education.
Students of the department have the opportunity to study in the field of design along three trajectories: "Graphic Design", "Architectural design", "Fashion and Design". The working curriculum includes relevant disciplines that meet modern requirements for the development of society.
In the field of education, the training of students is focused on the implementation of pedagogical activities in art schools (art schools) in the systems of secondary general, technical and vocational education.
The training of masters of pedagogical sciences (scientific and pedagogical direction) is aimed at the formation of personal and professional competencies for the implementation of pedagogical, educational, industrial, organizational and methodological activities in the systems of secondary general, technical and professional, higher education, as well as on the basis of the principles of scientific ability to be adaptive to the rapidly changing needs of education, production and society.
Dates and facts
History
The history of the Department of Fine Arts and design for the first time begins with the training of teaching staff in the specialty «drawing» for schools of the Karaganda region at the Karaganda Pedagogical Institute (KarPI) (rector S. B. Baimurzin) on the basis of the art and graphic Department of the Faculty of physics and mathematics (Dean, Ph.D. Aryngazin K.M.). In 1984, KarPI accepted students in the Specialty «Fine Arts, drawing and labor» (rector Dosmagambetov S.K.) and in the same year (head of the Department Eurasian Union of Designers, Candidate of Historical Sciences Nartya V. I.), at the Faculty of physics and mathematics (Dean, Eurasian Union of Designers). K.Z. Alzhanov, Ph.D. in physical and Mathematical Sciences) organized the Department of «Fine Arts, drawing and labor training».
After the merger of KarPI with Academician Ye.A. Buketov KSU in 1996, the Department of «Fine Arts and design» was established (the head was Eurasian Union of Designers., Member of the CRC Mustafin B.E.). In 2005-2006, the head of the department was Eurasian Union of Designers Solodovichenko L.N., Professor Khasenov M.M. in 2006-2007, and Eurasian Union of Designers Zh. Sh. Rezin from 2007 to 2012.
Teachers:
The department employs 24 specialists, including holders of the Republican title «The best teacher of the University», holders of the title «honorary designer» of the Eurasian Union of designers; corresponding members of the Academy of Arts of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Union of designers of Kazakhstan, the Union of artists of Kazakhstan, the Eurasian Union of designers, the Union of Journalists of Kazakhstan, candidates and masters of science.
Educational programs:
The programs of the department are of interest to young people of Kazakhstan and foreign countries. Representatives of Kazakhstan, Russia, Mongolia, and Ukraine study at the Department. In 2019, an innovative program «Fine Arts, artistic work, graphics and design» was developed and the first students were admitted. Most graduates of the Department easily find a job after graduation from the University. According to our data, this employment rate is 82%.
Accreditation and leadership:
All educational programs of the department are accredited by the Independent Agency for Quality Assurance in Education. They occupy a worthy place in the national rankings: 5B010700/6B01405 – Fine Arts and drawing - second place in the IAAR ranking, "5B042100/06b02101 – Design" fifth place, 5B012000 / 6B01407-Vocational Training – second place in the IQAA ranking.

Educational programs
6B01406-Visual art, artwork, graphics and design: Bachelor. The program is related to the study of art and graphic and pedagogical disciplines. A student learns the types of design and integration of various methods of organizing educational activities in the field of visual art, artistic work and graphic design in the course of training. Students have the opportunity to gain knowledge on the basics of design. Graduates receive a bachelor's degree in education and become teachers of art work, fine arts, drawing, graphics and design; teachers of additional education, artists, illustrators, photographers, artisans, decorators, glass and ceramics, wood, etc. can work as artists in painting and decoration.
6B02101-Design: Bachelor. The program is associated with the training of competitive specialists with a methodology of design thinking. In the course of training, the student learns to solve problems in the field of design theory and practice by working with modern tools, methods and forms of artistic design. Students have the opportunity to study pedagogy and individual methods. Graduates receive a bachelor of Arts degree and can work as a graphic designer, interior designer and decorator, landscape designer, clothing designer/fashion designer, printing publisher, 3D modeling designer, multimedia designer, photographer, teacher of additional education in the field of art and design, etc.
6B02102-Visual art: Bachelor. The educational program is focused on training a competitive artist of a wide profile in the field of fine arts, possessing fundamental and applied knowledge, research skills to carry out creative, professional and artistic activities in accordance with the requirements of the modern development of culture and art of new Kazakhstan. Graduates will receive a Bachelor of education degree and will be able to work as: an artist-painter, a restorer of paintings, an art editor, a costume designer, an animation artist, a graphic artist, a graphic designer, an illustrator, an art critic, an artist-teacher.
6B01407-Vocational education: Bachelor. The program is related to the training of specialists with pedagogical competencies in the field of secondary general, technical and vocational education. Students will learn how to solve problems in the organization and management of educational and technological processes in the system of general education, technical and vocational education in the course of their training. Students have the opportunity to gain knowledge in pedagogy and private methods. Graduates receive a Bachelor of education degree and will be able to work as college teachers, masters of industrial training, teacher of art work and drawing, methodologist in the system of secondary general, technical and vocational education, manager of vocational education, etc.
7M01401-Vocational education. Graduates can acquire professional competencies in the following professions: «Teacher of special disciplines (by industry), master of industrial training, teacher of additional education (training and retraining of groups of working professions) in the system of technical and vocational education, higher education», according to professional standards.
