The Department trains pedagogical and scientific-pedagogical personnel in bachelor's, master's and doctoral programs. Students and postgraduates of the department have the opportunity to study in five directions: "Nanotechnology", "Spectroscopy", "Physics", "Physics-Informatics"and "Mathematics". The training program includes such relevant disciplines as" Technique of translation of physical terms"," Methods of teaching physics"," School Experiment Technique"," Nuclear and elementary-particle physics"," School physics workshop" and "Nanoplasmonics". The department offers training in trilingual groups.
Graduates of the department will be able to teach in secondary schools, colleges, work as engineers in laboratories and research institutes.
The department's research interests are related to the study of nanomaterials and nanotechnologies. The department conducts fundamental and applied research on the development of innovative materials and technologies. The department has the Institute of Molecular Nanophotonics and the Institute of Environmental Problems and Technical Physics. Employees of the institutes implement fundamental, applied, contractual projects with the participation of doctoral students and external partners.
Dates and facts
History:
The department was established in 1972 during the formation of Karaganda State University. The first head of the department was appointed L. F. Ilyina, invited by the rector Ye. A. Buketov from Alma-Ata. The academic development of the department was reflected in its various names: the Department of General Physics and Methods of Teaching Physics, then the Department of General Physics, Thermophysics, the Department of General and Theoretical Physics, and now the Department of Physics and Nanotechnology.
In different years, the department was headed by colleagues Yu. A., Kontaev S. S. Kunakbayev T. A., Antipov Yu. N. Kurmanov M. K. Muratov T. M. Turmukhambetov A. Zh., Aryngazin K. M., Saulbekov A. O., Sakipova S. E. and Kudusov A. S. The staff of the department held senior positions in the management at the faculty and at the university: Ilina L. F. and Turmukhambetov A. Zh. were the deans of the Faculty of Physics, Antipov Yu. N. became the vice-rector for scientific work, Kontaev S. S.-the rector of the Institute for Advanced Training of Teachers. The department has always created favorable conditions for the development of teachers. Working at the department, they defended their PhD theses: Antipov Yu. N., Alzhanov K. Z., Ketsle G. A., Soynikov Yu. A., Kontaev S. S., Gladkov V. E., Bryukhanov V. V., Melnikov G. V., Kunakbayev T. Zh., Kusayynov K. K., Musenov K. K., Roizman G. Sh., Ospanov N. M., etc.
Students:
The department has 150 students, including holders of the state grant, representatives of other regions of Kazakhstan. Over the past five years, the number of students of the department has increased by 5 times.
Employment :
The employment rate of graduates of the programs 6B01504 "Physics-Informatics" and 6B01503 "Physics" is 100%, the program 6B05304 "Physics" - 80 %.
Teachers:
The department employs 22 teachers, including doctors, candidates, masters of Science, holders of the Republican title "The best teacher of the university".
Trilingual Education Program:
The department has developed programs that provide for one-time training in Kazakh, enssian and English: 6B01504 "Physics-Informatics", 6B01503 "Physics", 6B05304 "Physics".
Dissertation Council:
Since 2019, the department has a dissertation council for the defense of doctoral dissertations for the award of the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), doctor in the profile of the program 6D060400 – Physics. The chairman of the Council is Professor N. H. Ibraev.
Accreditation and leadership:
The programs of the department have national accreditation of IQAA and occupy worthy positions in the national ratings of "Atameken", IQAA, and IAAR.

At the disposal of students are computer classes focused on the study of computer science, programming, digital and analog electronics.

The program is trilingual and is associated with the pedagogical training of bachelors who possess theoretical knowledge in the field of physics, methods of teaching physics in secondary educational institutions. In the course of training, the student will learn the main sections of physics and mathematics, solving problems of increased complexity, and professional English. Students are invited to study such relevant disciplines as" Methods of translation of physical terms"," Methods of teaching physics"," School Experiment technique"," Physics of nuclear and elementary particles", "School Physics Workshop". Graduates receive a Bachelor of Education degree and can work as physics teachers in schools, colleges.
6B01504 "Physics-Informatics": Bachelor's degree. The program is bilingual and trilingual. It is associated with the pedagogical training of bachelors who possess theoretical knowledge in the field of physics and computer science, methods of teaching physics and computer science in secondary educational institutions. In the course of training, the student will learn the main sections of physics, computer science and mathematics, solving problems of increased complexity, programming languages, professional English. Students are invited to study such relevant disciplines as" Web technologies, web programming and Internet technologies"," Object-oriented programming"," Methods of teaching physics"," Methods of teaching computer Science","Methods of organizing and conducting a demonstration experiment in high school". Graduates receive a Bachelor of Education degree and will be able to work as teachers of physics and computer science in schools and colleges.
6B05304 "Physics": Bachelor's degree. The program is trilingual and is related to the study of physics. Students learn to observe, catalog, and model natural phenomena. They are invited to study such relevant disciplines as" Computer modeling in the study of nanomaterials"," Stenctural analysis of substances by X-ray spectroscopy"," Optical methods for the study of nanostenctures"," Molecular Spectroscopy", "Laser Physics". Graduates receive a Bachelor of Science degree and will be able to work as laboratory assistants and engineers at research centers and universities.
7M015001101 "Physics": Master's degree. The program is aimed at training scientific and pedagogical personnel. The master's student will study modern technologies of teaching physics, theoretical and practical problems of modern physics. The curriculum includes such relevant disciplines as" Innovation in applied physics"," Current problems of modern physics"," Modern pedagogical technologies in teaching natural science disciplines"," Professional foreign terminology in physics", "Computer methods in the field of nanotechnology". Graduates receive a master's degree in education and will be able to teach at a university, engage in research activities, work as physics teachers in schools, colleges, employees of research centers, specialists of education departments.
7M01501101 "Physics": Master's degree. The program is aimed at training scientific and pedagogical personnel. Undergraduates are invited to study such relevant disciplines as" Methods of scanning microscopy"," Stenctural analysis of single crystals"," Nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy"," Computer modeling of physical processes in matter and their properties", "Electronic processes in condensed matter". Undergraduates have the opportunity to study some subjects in English. Graduates receive a master's degree in natural sciences and will be able to work at the university, engage in research activities, work as an engineer, senior researcher in research centers, universities.
8D05302 "Physics": doctoral program. The program is aimed at training scientific and pedagogical personnel, researchers in the field of physics. Doctoral students are invited to study such relevant disciplines as" Scanning probe microscopy"," Methods for obtaining and studying nanostenctures"," Functional nanomaterials: production, properties, application", "Optical and microscopic methods for studying nanostenctures and nanomaterials", "Nanoplasmonics". Graduates receive the degree of Doctor of Philosophy-PhD and will be able to teach at the university, engage in research activities, and work in research institutes, centers, laboratories, design and design bureaus.
