The Department of Theory and Methodology of Physical Culture and Sports Training prepares specialists for the spheres of physical education and sports. The department offers bachelor’s degree and master’s degree programs on the educational trajectory “Physical culture and sports and health-improving physical culture”.
The curriculum includes such topical disciplines as “National sports with teaching methods”, “Sports medicine and monitoring of physical condition”, “Technology of organizing and conducting mass physical culture and sports events”, “Fitness technologies in the organization of education”, “Fundamentals of sports and pedagogical skills”, “Pedagogy and psychology of physical culture”.
Graduates of the department will be able to teach in schools, colleges, universities, work as coaches in sports organizations, and engage in research activities in the field of education, sports, physical health.
Students have access to modern gyms, specialized classes, and a scientific library. The department provides professional practice on the basis of general education and sports schools, research sites of the faculty.
The scientific interests of the department are related to the problems of sports education, technologies of teaching physical culture, public promotion of the idea of a healthy lifestyle.
Dates and facts
History
Training of personnel in the specialty “Physical culture and sports” began in 1959 at the department of the Faculty of Natural Sciences, and then at the Faculty of Physical Education of the Karaganda Pedagogical Institute. The teaching of all the disciplines of the sports and pedagogical cycle was entrusted to the department of Physical Education.
In December 1970, new departments were formed and opened, including the department of theory and methodology of physical education, history and organization of physical culture.
Over the years, the department was headed by Akimov A.B., Matushchak D.F., Gordeiko N.B, Baimagambetov Yu.T., Gromova L.A., Ivlev V.I., Karmanov B.S., Tulegenov Sh.T., Syzdykova S.Zh.
In 2014, the department was named “Theory and methodology of physical culture and sports training”.
Teachers:
The department employs 23 teachers, including PhDs, candidates of sciences, masters, holders of the republican title “The best teacher of the university of the Republic of Kazakhstan” (head of the department Bozhig Zh., associate professor Imanbetov A.N.).
Students:

Educational program 6М010800 / 7М01400501 - Physical culture and sports in 2018-2019 academic year – 9 students, in 2019-2020 academic year – 4 students, in 2020-2021 academic year – 9 students.
Among the students there are representatives of different regions of Kazakhstan, citizens of Mongolia, China, Russia, and Uzbekistan.
Employment:
The employment rate of graduates of the department is 84%.

The educational programs of the department have national accreditation in the IQAA and occupy worthy positions in national ratings:

Educational programs
6В01403 – Physical culture and sports: bachelor’s degree program. .The program is associated with the training of a competitive sports teacher who has the skills of organizing the educational process and managing the educational and training process. In the process of training, students acquire knowledge about the directed development of physical abilities and motor skills necessary in a specific professional or sports activity of a person. Graduates receive a bachelor’s degree and will be able to work in preschool institutions, general education schools, gymnasiums, lyceums, colleges, children’s sports schools, fitness clubs, and physical culture authorities.
7М01400501 - Physical culture and sports: master’s degree program. The program is aimed at fundamental scientific and practical training of specialists in the field of physical culture and sports, possessing theoretical and applied knowledge, providing them with professional suitability and competitiveness in scientific and pedagogical activities. Master’s degree students receive theoretical knowledge, skills of research and scientific and pedagogical work. Training is carried out in the scientific and pedagogical direction for a period of 2 years and in the profile direction for a period of 1 year. Graduates receive a master’s degree in education and may teach in schools, gymnasiums, lyceums, colleges, universities, engage in research activities, work in children’s sports schools, sports and fitness clubs, and physical culture authorities.
