The Department of Kazakh Linguistics trains specialists in the field of education, culture and language policy, offers bachelor's, master's and doctoral programs.
Students of the department have the opportunity to study along four trajectories: "Kazakh language and literature", "Philology", "Kazakh language and literature in schools with non-Kazakh language of instruction", "Kazakh and English languages". The curriculum includes such topical disciplines as "Cognitive linguistics", "New directions in linguistics", "Linguistics of translation studies", "Comparative grammar of Kazakh, Russian (foreign) languages", "Comprehensive analysis of literary text".
The department graduates will be able to work as teachers of secondary and secondary vocational educational institutions; employees of cultural institutions; secretaries-assistants; office managers; museum workers; proofreaders, editors of publishing products; employees of editorial offices of newspapers, magazines, radio, television; employees of education departments.
The scientific interests of the department are related to the study of the leading areas of modern linguistic knowledge, such as cognitive linguistics, psycholinguistics, ethnolinguistics and cultural linguistics.
Dates and facts
History:
The Department of Kazakh Linguistics was founded in 1938. The first head of the department was associate professor K.K. Tungyshbaev. Over the years, the department was headed by candidate of philological sciences, PhD. F. Kenzhebayeva, candidate of philological sciences, Associate ProfessorS.R. Ibrayev, Doctor of Philosophy, Professor T.R. Nurmukhanov, Doctor of Philosophy, Professor Zh.A. Zhakupov, Doctor of Philological Sciences, Professor Sh. Mazhitaeva. From the 2020-2021 academic year, the department is headed by - candidate of philological sciences, Associate Professor S.A. Kenzhegaliev.
Teachers:
Currently, the department employs 13 teachers, including doctors, candidates, masters of philological sciences, as well as holders of the republican title "The best teacher of the university" (professor Mazhitaeva Sh.M. and associate professor Kenzhegaliev S.A).
Students:
The contingent of students of the department annually increases, within three years it has grown by one and a half times. The students of the department are citizens of Uzbekistan, Mongolia, China, representatives of different regions of Kazakhstan. Students of the department participate in the academic mobility program and study at national universities in Kazakhstan and universities in China.
Educational programs:
In the 2019-2020 academic year, the department opened a bachelor's program 6В01702 "Kazakh and English languages".
Employment:
The graduates of the department are easily employed after graduating from the university many of them achieves success in their careers. The employment rate of our graduates is over 80%.
Accreditation and Leadership:
The programs of the department have national accreditation and take worthy positions in national ratings: the program "Philology" is in the top five, the program "Kazakh and English languages" takes first place in "Atameken"rating.
Partners:
The department actively cooperates with foreign colleagues. Professors and teachers maintain scientific ties with various international educational institutions, including the Uzbek University of World Languages (Tashkent, Uzbekistan), Bonn University (Germany), RUDN University (Moscow, Russia), Xinjiang University and Ili Pedagogical University (PRC). With these universities, the department carries out joint training of masters and doctoral candidates.

6B02305 «Philology»: Bachelor’s degree. The program is related to the study of Kazakh philology. Graduates receive a bachelor's degree in philology and will be able to work as teachers in secondary educational institutions, proofreaders in the media, journalists, employees of educational and cultural institutions.
6В01702 «Kazakh and English languages»: Bachelor’s degree. The program is related to the study of Kazakh and English philology. In the process of training, the student will learn to speak Kazakh and English as a means of professional communication, translation activities. Graduates receive a bachelor's degree in education and will be able to work as teachers of the Kazakh and English languages in secondary educational institutions, editors in the media, press secretaries of organizations, speechwriters, advertising agents.
7М02306001 «Philology»: Master’s degree. Undergraduates have the opportunity to study some of the subjects in English. The program is related to the study of Kazakh and English philology. In the process of training, the undergraduate will learn how to conduct research in the field of philological science, freely use a foreign language as a means of business communication and social mobility and use the acquired knowledge and skills in scientific and scientific and technical activities. Graduates receive a master's degree in philology and will be able to teach at universities, institutes for advanced training, work in research centers, as managers in the field of education.
7М01701701 «Kazakh language and literature»: Master’s Degree. The program is related to the study of Kazakh philology. Undergraduates have the opportunity to study some of the subjects in English. 8D01701 «Kazakh language and literature»: doctoral studies, 8D02301 «Philology»: doctoral studies. The program is connected with the study of Kazakh, English philology, research in the philology field. Doctoral candidates have the opportunity to study some of the subjects in English. During the learning process, the doctoral candidates will do a research according to their scientific topic and study special courses. Graduates receive a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree, a doctor in the specialty 6D020500 - Philology and will be able to teach at a university, institutes for advanced training, and work in research centers.
