The Department of Journalism trains specialists in mass media and offers bachelor's and master's programs.
Students of the department have the opportunity to study in five directions: "Electronic media," "Print media," "Transmedia journalism," "Advertising and PR activities," "Creative digital technologies."
The curriculum includes topical disciplines like "Multimedia journalism," "Fundamentals of copywriting," "Cyber journalism," "Modern media text."
Students study political, economic, environmental, and sports journalism.
Graduates of the department will work as journalists, editors in publications, electronic media, spokespersons in organizations, heads of press departments, advertising agents.
The scientific interests of the department are related to the study of the media culture of modern press, digital journalism, and convergent media.
Dates and facts
History:
The Department of Journalism opened its doors in 1994. The first head was the famous Kazakh publicist and researcher of journalism, candidate of philological sciences, associate professor Z.S. Tayshybaev. The Karaganda writer and publicist V. Mogilnitsky, the prominent Kazakh journalist M. Sembay, the talented Kazakh poet K. Saugabay, the famous Kazakh journalist, author M. Tokmyrza contributed to the formation of the journalism department.
Over the years, the heads of the department were B.K. Momynova, Zh.K. Smagulov, S. Sh.Takhan, V.T. Abisheva, M.K. Zhumabekov. Currently, the head of the department is the candidate of philological sciences, associate professor Ramazanova Zh.S. The first class graduated in 1997.
Accreditation and leadership:
All programs of the department have national accreditation. They occupy honorable positions in national rankings.
Employment:
The department graduates are in demand in the labor market. The employment rate is 80%. Today, graduates of the department work in the national and international media, in press centers, PR agencies, and teach at the journalism departments of Kazakh universities.

Physical infrastructure:
At the Department of Journalism, an educational television laboratory is a complex that includes a studio, editing, control room, radio center, and an experimental classroom. The laboratory conducts practical training in television and radio journalism.

6B03201 - Journalism: bachelor’s degree. The program is related to the study of journalism. In training, students will learn how to write journalistic articles, create television programs, and acquire unique knowledge in specialized journalism. Students have the opportunity to study some of the subjects in English. Graduates receive a bachelor's degree in journalism and will be able to work as journalists, media editors, press secretaries of organizations, speechwriters, advertising agents.
6B03202 - Public Relations: bachelor’s degree. The program is related to the study of the target audience, marketing moves, etc. In training, the student will learn how to write press releases, create and film backgrounds, organize briefings, press conferences, and work with media representatives. Students have the opportunity to study some of the subjects in English. Graduates receive a bachelor's degree in public relations and will be able to work as press secretaries of organizations, speechwriters, advertising agents, SMM specialists.
7M03206701-Journalism: master’s degree. The goal of the program is the training of the scientific and pedagogical staff. In the training process, the graduate students will learn how to conduct scientific research and gain in-depth knowledge in media. Graduate students have the opportunity to study some of the subjects in English. Graduates receive a master's degree in journalism and will be able to teach at the university, work in the media, and hold management positions in the media field.
