The Department of Foreign Philology is the graduating department of E.A. Buketov KarU. The department trains specialists in the field of language and literature on the educational programs of Bachelor's degree 6B02303 «Foreign Philology (English)», 6B02303.1 «Foreign Philology (Chinese)» and Master's degree 7M02301 «Foreign Philology».
The training is carried out in two trajectories: literary studies and linguistics.
During their studies, students study the following disciplines: «Basics of the theory of the language studied», «Literature of the country of the language studied», «Basics of philological analysis of the text», «Interpretation of the text», «Editing a fiction text», «Practical training in public speaking», «Stylistics», «Linguocultural studies», «Cognitive linguistics and psycholinguistics», «Business foreign language», «Problems of the theory and practice of translation».
To students of other educational programs of the faculty, the department teaches: «Basics of the theory of the studied language», «Literature of the country of the studied language», «Stylistics» and «Text interpretation», and «Chinese language».
European and Oriental languages are taught at the faculty as the main and second foreign languages. The study of the second foreign language is compulsory and starts in the second year. The choice of language is based on students' wishes.
Students actively participate in academic mobility programs: Shihezi University (China), Novosibirsk State Pedagogical University (Russian Federation)), Anshan Pedagogical University (China), Charles University, Prague (Czech Republic), University of Lisbon (Portugal).
The teachers of the department are specialists who have great experience of working not only in our country but also abroad. Many of them have been trained in foreign universities. The department includes the holders of the title «The best teacher of the university», Doctor of Philosophy, Professor Isina G.I., Candidate of Philosophy, Associate Professor Kakzhanova F.A., a graduate of the scholarship «Bolashak» Omarova A.M.
The chair is engaged in cognitive and functional-pragmatic research of language in the sphere of professional communication and also realizes the scientific project «Linguocognitive and discursive bases of national identity in the context of foreign language education» within the grant financing of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the head - Doctor of Philosophy, professor Isina G.I.
In the direction «7M02301 - Foreign Philology» the department implements a joint educational program with the International Kazakh-Turkish University named after Khodja Akhmet Yasaui.
The department organizes guest lectures, and training of foreign professors (Ponomareva A.V., UCL University, London. V., UCL University, London, Literarytheory / Translationtheory; Dr.RabNawazLodhi, University of Central Punjab, Pakistan, Qualitativeresearchdesign).
Graduates of the department successfully work in educational and humanitarian institutions, diplomatic departments, and commercial firms, in the sphere of translation services, mass-media, advertising, editorial, and publishing activities as philologists, editors, proofreaders, copywriters, applying their knowledge of English and Chinese languages in practice.
Dates and facts
History
The Department of Foreign Philology was established in 2018. The origin of the department was laid in 1996 as part of the Department of Foreign Philology and Translation.
In different years, the department was headed by Ph.D., Associate Professor Kakzhanova F.A., Ph.D., Professor Isina G.I., Ph.D., Associate Professor Tsai E.N.
2013: signing a cooperation agreement with Shihezi University (China), studying the first students from Shihezi University (China);
2017: first graduation of students with a degree in Foreign Philology (Chinese).
Teachers:
Currently, the department employs 16 teachers, including doctors, candidates of sciences, masters. The department invites foreign teachers-philologists to cooperate. As a rule, these are DAAD lecturers from Germany, teachers from universities in Italy, China, the USA, and France.
Accreditation and Leadership:
The educational programs of the department are accredited by the national agency IQAA, German agency AQUIN. They occupy the 2nd place in the National ranking of specialties of universities of Kazakhstan in the national ratings of IQAA and Atameken.
Employment:
Among the graduates of the department there are natives of different regions of Kazakhstan, citizens of Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, China, Turkey, and Italy. The employment rate of graduates of the department was 89% in the bachelor's degree and 100% in master's studies.
Academic mobility:
Students actively participate in visiting academic mobility programs and study at partner universities. These include Anshan Pedagogical University (China), Shihezi University (China), Novosibirsk State Pedagogical University (Russia), Moscow State Linguistic University (Russia), Charles University (Czech Republic), University of Naples Orientale (Italy), Adam Mickiewicz University (Poland).

6B02303 "Foreign Philology (English)": Bachelor's degree.
The aim of the educational program is professional training of specialists in the field of linguistics and literary studies, fluent in several foreign languages (English/German/French/Italian/Chinese), demonstrating knowledge of the main provisions and concepts in the theory and history of foreign language and literature, theory of communication, philological analysis and interpretation of the text, the current state and prospects of development of foreign philology.
6B02303.1 "Foreign Philology (Chinese)": Bachelor's degree.
The educational program aims to provide students with fundamental knowledge about China, based on an in-depth study of the philological component of the Chinese cultural heritage. At the same time, the program provides for the formation of a holistic understanding of the cultural, ethnic, linguistic, social and other features of China with a parallel and comprehensive study of the Chinese language.
Graduates of both undergraduate programs receive a Bachelor of Arts degree.
European and Oriental languages, including German, French, Chinese are taught at the faculty as first and second foreign languages. The study of the second foreign language is compulsory and starts from the 2nd year, it is determined after the 1st semester taking into account the grade point average and students' wishes. During their studies, students study such disciplines as "Literature of the country of the target language", "Fundamentals of the theory of the target language", "Stylistics", "Workshop on public speech", "Problems of the theory and practice of translation", "Business foreign language", "Interpretation of the text", "Fundamentals of philological text analysis", "Editing literary text", "Cultural linguistics", "Cognitive linguistics and psycholinguistics".
In other programs of the Faculty of Foreign Languages, the department teaches the basics of the theory of the target language, literature of the target language country, stylistics and text interpretation, and Chinese.
7M02301 "Foreign Philology": Master's degree program
The aim of the educational program is to train highly qualified researchers-philologists, teachers of the university, who possess productive technologies in the context of cognitive-linguocultural methodology of foreign language education.
Graduates of the Master's program receive the degree of Master of Arts.
The teachers of the Department are specialists who have extensive experience not only in our country, but also abroad. Many of them have completed internships at foreign universities. The department includes holders of the title "The best teacher of the university": Doctor of Philosophy, Professor G.I. Isina, Candidate of Philosophy, Associate Professor F.A. Kakzhanova.
