The scientific interests of the department are related to the current problems of ecology, physiology, biotechnological research methods, and environmental protection.
History:
The Department of Human and Animal Physiology as an independent unit was organized in 1966 as a result of the division of the Department of Zoology into 2 departments, namely Zoology and Human and Animal Physiology. The department was headed by Professor Paulina Semyonovna Kravitskaya from the moment of its foundation until 1973.
In 1965, the Department of Zoology established a postgraduate course in the Physiology specialty under the direction of P. S. Kravitskaya.
From 1973 to 1979, the Department of Human and Animal Physiology was headed by Candidate of Biological Sciences, Associate Professor K.I. Kulzhanova. The faculty organized the Anatomical Museum under her supervision.
From 1979 to 1992, the department was headed by Candidate of Biological Sciences, Associate Professor Kh.Zh. Aubakirova. She carried out a lot of educational and research work being the head of the department. According to the results of the research work, the department took a leading place among the departments of the faculty.
From 1992 to 1996, the department was headed by PhD, Associate Professor D.M. Dzhangozina. At the same time, special attention was paid to the scientific growth of young teachers.
From 1996 to 2007, the department was headed by Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Smagulov N.K. During this period, a scientific school was established in the direction of «The influence of adverse factors on the functional state of the human body». Under his leadership, more than 10 PhD theses were defended, namely Blyalev S. A., Kystaubayeva Z. T., Mukasheva G. Zh., Satybaldina A. E., Starikova A. E., Kozhevnikova N. A., etc.
2007-2022 the head of the department was Candidate of Biological Sciences, associate professor G. M. Tykezhanova.
Since 2022, the Department of Physiology has been headed by assistant Professor, Candidate of Biological Sciences, Mukasheva G. Zh.
