The Department of Inorganic and Technical Chemistry prepares a highly qualified teacher of chemistry and chemistry-biology with knowledge of English, as well as a research chemist and a chemist-technologist in the framework of educational programs for Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees.
Students and master students of the Department have the opportunity to study in the following key modules: training module, fundamental training module, teaching technology module, distance learning technologies, English language module. The curriculum includes such relevant disciplines as Management in Education, Inclusive Education, Coordination Chemistry, Stereochemistry, Organization of project activities of schoolchildren, Methods of research, Methodology of carrying out school chemical experiments, Demonstration methodology, Chemistry at school, Platforms and services distance learning, Organization of distance learning in the school system, English (B2, C1), Innovation in chemistry, Chemistry of nanomaterials, Functional materials for organic electronics, Fundamentals of materials science, Supramolecular chemistry and others.
Graduates of the Department will be able to work as a high school teacher, a college and university teacher, a research assistant, a chemical technologist, a material technologist.
The scientific interests of the Department are related to the development of new functional materials based on phenylene-azulenes for organic electronics, development of physicochemical foundations of targeted synthesis of new polyoxo-compounds of chalcogenes for application in microelectronics, development of new methods of qualitative and quantitative elemental analysis of inorganic objects, as well as research and development of effective educational technologies and methods of teaching chemistry.

History
The Department of Inorganic and Technical Chemistry (the original name is the Department of Inorganic Chemistry) is one of the first departments of the Chemistry Faculty and was organized in 1972. The first head of the Department was a well-known chemist, who made a worthy contribution to the formation of the department, Candidate of Chemical Sciences, Associate Professor Kozhakova Akbet Amanbayevna. For 30 years the Department was headed by such well-known scientists-chemists who made a significant contribution to the development of the Department, namely Doctor of Chemical Sciences, Professor Aldabergenov M.K., Doctor of Chemical Sciences, Professor Matayev M.M., Candidate of Chemical Sciences, Associate Professor Sharipova Z.M., Candidate of Chemical Sciences, Associate Professor Kokibasova G.T.
Teaching staff:
Nowadays the Department employs well-known chemists, teachers, young scientists trained in foreign universities and research centers. The department includes holders of the title «The best University teacher»: Academician of the Kazakhstan National Academy of Natural Sciences, Professor Rustembekov K.T., Professor Merkhatuly N., Associate Professor Kokibasova G.T., Associate Professor Dyusekeyeva A.T., Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Professor Omarov Kh.B; holders of state awards and prizes: Professor Merkhatuly N. and Professor Omarov Kh.B. Leadership and Accreditation:
All educational programs of the Department are accredited by the IQAA Agency. They participate annually and always take prizes since 2009 in the rating of Independent Agency for Quality Assurance in Education, Independent Agency for Accreditation and Rating and Atameken. All educational programs of the department took 1st place in the rating of Bachelor's and Master's programs of the Independent Agency for Quality Assurance in Education in 2020.
Department projects:
The teachers of the department carry out research on 5 projects within the framework of grant financing of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan and priority areas: scientific research in the field of natural sciences; geology, mining and processing of mineral and hydrocarbon raw materials, new materials, technologies, safe products and structures; research in education and science. Students and master students of the Department are actively involved in the implementation of Grant projects.

The Department is closely connected with universities and research institutions of the near and far abroad, in particular with Charles University (Czech Republic), Montana University (USA), Lancaster University (England), University of Newcastle (England), Southwestern University «Neofit Rilski» (Bulgaria), National Research Nuclear University «MEPhI» (Russia), Tomsk State University (Russia), Grodno State University (Belarus), Institute of Organic Synthesis named after N.D. Zelinsky RAS (Russia), Institute of Organoelement Compounds named after A.N. Nesmeyanov RAS (Russia) and etc.
The department closely cooperates with leading domestic universities and research organizations, in particular with Nazarbayev University (Nur-Sultan), Kazakh National Women's Pedagogical University (Almaty), Kazakh National University named after Al-Farabi (Almaty), Kazakh National Pedagogical University named after Abay (Almaty), National Center for Biotechnology (Nur-Sultan), International Scientific and Production Holding «Phytochemistry» (Karaganda), etc.
Practice bases for students:
74 enterprises and organizations, the Department has its own branch on the basis of «Nazarbayev Intellectual School of Chemical and Biological Direction» in Karaganda.
Employment:
The employment of Bachelor graduates in 2020 was 98%, Master graduates is 100%.

The program is related to the study of subjects in the following modules: ideological foundations of modernization of public consciousness, socio-political knowledge, information and communication, vocational training, fundamental training, teaching technology, distance learning technology, English. The program is trilingual; students have the opportunity to study some of the subjects in English. Graduates receive a Bachelor of Education Degree and will be able to work as a high school chemistry teacher and college teacher.
6В01508 - Chemistry‒Biology: Bachelor’s Degree. The program is related to the study of subjects in the following modules: ideological foundations of modernization of public consciousness, socio-political knowledge, information and communication, vocational training, fundamental training, teaching technology, distance learning technology, English. The program is trilingual; students have the opportunity to study some of the subjects in English. Graduates receive a Bachelor of Education degree and will be able to work as a high school chemistry and biology teacher and college teacher.
7М01501301 ‒ Chemistry: Master’s Degree. The program is related to the study of disciplines such as philosophical and historical aspects of social and humanitarian knowledge, professional languages, foundations of scientific research and commercialization, methodology and modern technologies of teaching chemistry, topical problems of modern chemistry. Students have the opportunity to study some of the subjects in English. Graduates receive a Master's degree in Pedagogical Sciences and will be able to teach at a university, engage in scientific activities, work as a college teacher and a high school teacher.
7М07109701 - Chemical technology of inorganic substances: Master’s Degree. The program is related to the study of disciplines such as philosophical and historical aspects of social and humanitarian knowledge, professional languages, the foundations of modern technologies for processing mineral raw materials, the basics of the technology of inorganic substances and materials, the foundations of modern chemistry. Students have the opportunity to study some of the subjects in English. Graduates receive a Master's Degree in Technical Sciences and will be able to teach at a university, engage in scientific activities, work as a university teacher, research associate, and chemist-technologist.
