The Department of Social Work and Social Pedagogy trains specialists in the field of organization and implementation of social assistance and support to persons in difficult life situations; social and pedagogical support and moral and spiritual education of children and youth; organization of leisure and creativity for development, promotion of cultural and national values.

The department offers undergraduate and graduate programs. Students of the department have the opportunity to study in the following areas: "Social services in the system of social protection of the population", "Social work with various categories of the population", "Social work in the health care system", "Social and pedagogical work in educational institutions", "Social and pedagogical work in the system of social adaptation and rehabilitation of children and youth ”,“ Cultural and leisure work in schools and out-of-school organizations ”,“ Organization of mass leisure activities ”.

The curriculum includes such topical disciplines as "Innovative technologies in the organization of the educational process at school", "Multicultural education", "Fundamentals of communicative culture", "Fundamentals of cultural and leisure work in inclusive education", "Social policy", "Workshop "IT-technologies in social work" "and others.

Graduates of the department will be able to work as specialists in social work in various institutions, managers and consultants on social issues, specialists in the protection of the rights of the child, social educators, teachers of self-knowledge, organizers of cultural work, teacher-organizers in various institutions, artistic directors of collectives in the field of culture and art, etc.

Dates and facts

History:
The Department of Social Work and Social Pedagogy was one of the first in the Republic of Kazakhstan to begin training social workers and social teachers.
The department was created in 1990 as the department of theory and methodology of educational work at the Karaganda Pedagogical Institute at the Faculty of Physical Education and Sports. The position of the first head of the department was held by Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor Oleinikova T.N.
In 1992, the department of theory and methodology of educational work was transformed into the department of social work and social pedagogy at the newly opened faculty of social pedagogy under the direction of candidate of pedagogical sciences, associate professor K.M. Tuganbekov, from 2009 to 2013- Doctor of Ph.D., Professor Mukhtarova Sh.M., from 2013 to 2022 - Candidate of Social Sciences, Associate Professor Abdrasheva B.Zh. At the moment, the department is headed by Candidate of Social Sciences, Associate Professor Jamaliyeva G.Zh. (from 2022)

Since the same 1992, the department began to train specialists in the specialty "Social Pedagogy and Psychology". Education in the specialty 050905 - "Social work" was started by the department in 1993. At the origins of the department was Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor Trushin A.G., Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor Orlov A.A., teacher-practitioner Lyuboshchinskaya N.N., Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor Oleinikova T. N., candidate of social sciences, associate professor AbdrashevaB.Zh., candidate of pedagogical sciences, associate professor Burganova R.I., associate professor Black G.G. and etc.
On the initiative of the Department of Social Work and Social Pedagogy, with the support and request of the Department of Culture of the Karaganda region from 2004-2005 academic year. the specialty 050906- "Cultural and leisure work" was opened for the first time, providing training for organizers in the field of leisure. In the 2002-2003 academic year, a magistracy was opened in the specialty "Social Work". In 2012, a magistracy was opened in the specialty "Social pedagogy and self-knowledge".
In 2014, the department became part of the Faculty of Philosophy and Psychology.

The demand for the programs of the department in the youth environment is evidenced by a stable contingent of students. Students from other regions of Kazakhstan (according to the Serpin program) and from neighboring countries: Uzbekistan, Mongolia, China enter the specialty of the Department of Social Work and Social Pedagogy.
Students of the specialty "Social Work" have been holding leading positions in the Republican Subject Olympiad for 11 years. Future organizers of leisure activities and social educators have also repeatedly become prize winners of the Olympiad. The success of students graduated from the Department of Social Work and Social Pedagogy is reflected in the results of the competition "The best research work of students of higher educational institutions of the Republic of Kazakhstan."

Employment in all specialties of the department shows good results. Graduates work in such institutions and organizations as the Office of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Akimat of Karaganda, the Office for the Coordination of Employment and Social Programs of the Karaganda region, ENU named after L.N. Gumilyov, Palace of culture of miners in Karaganda, Palace of culture of railway workers in Karaganda, Education Department of Karaganda region.

The department has wide international relations with various higher educational institutions and organizations, whose activities are related to the professionalization of social workers, social teachers, specialists in cultural and leisure work. They are University. I.A. Cuza (Romania), Russian State Social University (Russia), Mozyr State Pedagogical University named after I.P. Shamyakina (Republic of Belarus), Sochi State University (Russia), Sofia University. St. Kliment Ohridskiy (Bulgaria), National Fund for the Protection of Children from Abuse. Since 2001, the department has been cooperating with the International Kazakhstan Public Fund for the Protection of Mother and Child Health and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF).

Branches and bases of practice of the department:
The branches of the department successfully operate on the basis of the Palace of Children and Youth in Karaganda, local self-government for children with disabilities in the development of the Karaganda region, boarding school No. 68 in Karaganda: the purpose of developing practical skills to prepare for professional activity. Have become traditional: seminar-training with a visit together with the staff of the Children's and Youth Department of Karaganda, Karkaralinsky National Park; carrying out charitable events, providing patronage assistance in the local self-government of Karaganda and the Karaganda region; organization of social and educational events; conferences and round tables on topical issues of social and pedagogical work on the basis of boarding school №68 in Karaganda. The basic organizations of practical training for more than a dozen years are the Office of Employment and Coordination of Social Programs of the Karaganda Region, the Department of Employment and Social Programs, the Department of Culture of the Karaganda Region, SOS Children's Village, the Karaganda Regional Kazakh Drama Theater named after I. S. Seifullin, Karaganda State Order of Friendship of Peoples Russian Drama Theater named after K.S. Stanislavsky.

Projects:
Twice the department became a participant in the competition of projects of educational international programs TEMPUS (2000, 2009) and a number of other international scientific projects: “Improvement of the social protection system for persons with disabilities within the framework of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the development of a system for the provision of special social services "(Kazakhstan-Germany)," Implementation of a modern system of social care in the Karaganda region "(Kazakhstan-Germany), etc.

The program is connected with the study of the problems of education and training, forms and methods of social and pedagogical work, innovative methods of implementing the program of moral and spiritual education "Self-knowledge". In the process of training, the student will learn to assess the need for social and pedagogical intervention in the process of socialization of children and youth; analyze the nature of the social and pedagogical problems of children and youth; apply modern methods and technologies of social and pedagogical work, teaching the subject "Self-knowledge", etc.

Graduates receive a bachelor's degree in education and will be able to work in the education system as a social teacher, a teacher of self-knowledge, a specialist in protecting the rights of the child, a specialist in social support for the unemployed and the needy; a specialist in preschool educational institutions, orphanages, boarding schools, specialized educational institutions.

The program is connected with the study of the basics of providing social services, specialized social assistance to vulnerable and problem categories of citizens in the system of social protection of the population, health care, education and culture. In the process of training, the student will learn to assess the need for social services of various categories of citizens; analyze the nature of social problems; apply modern methods and technologies of social work; provide special social services to various categories of citizens, etc.

Graduates receive a bachelor's degree in services and will be able to work as managers and consultants on social issues, specialists in social work in institutions, organizations, social protection bodies, specialists in the provision of public social services.

6В11102 «Cultural and leisure work»: Bachelor's degree. The program is connected with the study of the sphere of organizing leisure and creativity, adapting to the modern requirements of the market. In the process of training, the student will learn to assess the need of various categories of citizens for the services of professional social and cultural activities; apply modern methods and technologies of social and cultural activities; organize the activities of creative teams, etc.

Graduates receive a bachelor's degree in services and will be able to work as artistic directors of collectives in the field of culture and art; teacher-organizers in various institutions; directors of script-directing productions of mass festive performances and show programs, etc.
