The Department of Philosophy and Theory of Culture trains specialists in the field of socio-humanitarian knowledge at three levels of higher education: bachelors, masters, doctors of philosophy (PhD) in the educational program “Philosophy”, bachelors in the educational program “Religious Studies”.
The department provides reading for all master's degree programs in the course “History and Philosophy of Science”, for all undergraduate educational programs in the courses “Philosophy” and “Cultural Studies”.
Bachelor's level students specializing in the department read such topical disciplines as “Religions of Kazakhstan”, “Politics and Religion”, “Modern religious situation in Kazakhstan”, “Prevention of religious extremism”, “Archetypes of the Kazakh mentality”, “Social conflictology”, “Culture” thinking”, “The human problem – activity, communication, creativity”, “Philosophical methodology in education”, etc.
The scientific interests of the department cover a wide range of both classical and modern problems of modern philosophy, as well as problems related to the religious factor of the spiritual life of modern Kazakhstan. Students, undergraduates, doctoral students conduct research work and carry out research projects on the basis of the “Research Laboratory for the Comprehensive Study of the Religious Situation in Kazakhstan,” which is headed by Doctor of Philology, Professor B.I. Karipbaev. The scientific circle “Impulse” operates at the department. Students of the department are holders of personal scholarships, including scholarships of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan; prize-winners of university, republican and international competitions and olympiads.
Graduates of the department will be able to work as experts, social analysts in state and local authorities, research institutes, public organizations, the media, advisers on managerial and religious issues, specialists in culture and religion in the diplomatic service, teach philosophy and socio-humanitarian disciplines in secondary specialized and higher education institutions .

History:
The Department of Philosophy and Theory of Culture is one of the leading departments of the University. It was formed on the basis of the Department of Philosophy and Political Economy of the Karaganda Pedagogical Institute in 1968. The department was headed by Candidate of Philosophical Sciences, Professor Saginova Mariam Saginovna, the first female philosopher in Kazakhstan who defended her PhD thesis. For 20 years, starting in 1972, the department was headed by Doctor of Philosophy, Professor Klescheva Raisa Akhmetovna, who made a huge contribution to the formation of the scientific potential of the department.

The department employs 29 teachers, among them doctors and candidates of philosophical sciences, doctors of philosophy (PhD), masters of humanities. Among the teaching staff of the department are holders of the title “Honored Worker of Karaganda University named after. E.A. Profiles of the teaching staff are presented in the scientometric databases Scopus, Web of Science, ORCID, etc. For the 2022-2023 academic year, the faculty of the department published 2 monographs (Kolumbaev B.E., Karipbaev B.I.), 1 textbook recommended by the EMA REMA (B.I. Karipbaev), 1 educational and methodological manual (M.T. Uksukbaeva), 4 articles in journals with an impact factor based on Scopus (as part of a team of authors), 33 articles in journals recommended by CQAES MSHE KR. Teachers of the department constantly improve their qualifications by completing scientific internships and qualification courses, participating in conferences and seminars, studying on international educational platforms (Coursera) and in the postdoctoral program, as well as attending guest lectures by lecturers from leading foreign scientific organizations and higher education institutions. For the 2022-2023 academic year, 50 certificates were received.
The Department of Philosophy and Theory of Culture was the base university for organizing and conducting the Republican Subject Olympiad and the Republican Competition of Research Works of Students of Higher Educational Institutions of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the educational program “Philosophy”.
Students:
The contingent of students for the 2023-2024 academic year is 130 people, who are representatives of a number of regions of Kazakhstan (South Kazakhstan region, West Kazakhstan region, East Kazakhstan region, Kostanay region, Akmola region, Pavlodar region) and other states (Uzbekistan, Mongolia) . 97% of students study on the basis of a state educational grant. Among the students of the department are holders of scholarships from the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, personal scholarships, winners and prize-winners of university, republican and international competitions and olympiads. Students of OP 6B02201 - Philosophy within the framework of outgoing, external mobility are trained at the Bashkir State University (RF, 2022-2023 academic year), University of Naples L'Orientale (Italy, 2023-2024 academic year).
Employment:
Graduates of the department are in demand in the labor market. The average employment rate for undergraduate educational programs is 85%, for master’s and doctoral educational programs – 100%.

Educational programs
6В02201 «Philosophy»: Bachelor's degree. The program is related to the study of philosophical knowledge and methodology. In the process of training, the student will learn research, teaching and educational and expert advisory activities. The graduate will receive a bachelor's degree and will be able to teach philosophy and socio-humanitarian disciplines in secondary educational institutions, work as a social analyst in government structures, public organizations and private companies, an anthropologist and ethnologist, consulting organizations on the problems of national movements, interethnic relations, population migration, national mentality; to be a specialist in scientific, educational and social funds.
6В02202 «Religious studies»: Bachelor's degree. The program is related to the study of knowledge about religion for the further improvement of the Kazakh model of religious tolerance and interfaith harmony. In the course of training, the student will reach a professional level in the field of religious relations in modern society. The graduate will receive a bachelor's degree and will be able to work as a specialist in consulting and expert work, an adviser on management and religious issues, a consultant manager on religion and culture, teach in secondary educational institutions, be a specialist in culture and religion in the diplomatic service, a consultant on issues state-legal, inter-religious and inter-confessional relations.
7M02201 - Philosophy: master's degree. The program is aimed at training qualified specialists in the field of philosophical knowledge, who can use a complex of modern knowledge about topical philosophical problems and ways to solve them in various areas of professional activity in the spheres of public life, who are able to apply the acquired knowledge and skills in social activities and personal development. Undergraduates are offered to study topical disciplines, including «Commercialization of the results of scientific and technical activities», «Philosophy of Innovation», «History and philosophy of science», «Philosophy of education», «Philosophy of Culture (in English)», «Philosophical aspects of social modernization in Kazakhstan», « Organization and planning of scientific studies in the humanities», « Modern кazakh philosophy », « Anthropological discourse in the Kazakh philosophy», « Human in Man (in English)» and others. Graduates receive a Master of Humanities degree in the educational program "7M02201-Philosophy" and can work in the higher education system, research centers, state and local governments, work as a social analyst in government agencies, public organizations and private companies, as a referent, manager in sphere of social and cultural work etc.
8D02201 - Philosophy: Doctoral studies. The program is aimed at training highly qualified, internationally competitive researchers, professional and scientific elite with a high level of general and professional culture, capable of self-development and social adaptation based on educational, pedagogical and research activities. Doctoral students are offered to study topical disciplines, including «Methodology of Scientific Research», «Academic writing», « Actual problems of Kazakh philosophy», «Modern postnonclassical philosophy», «Social activity», «Management philosophy», « Problems of spiritual and moral values in the Turkic worldview». Graduates receive a PhD degree in the educational program "8D02201-Philosophy" and can teach at higher educational institutions, engage in research activities, management in education, and work in government bodies
