City Nature Challenge 2024: Karaganda

iNaturalist is a social network of experts and nature lovers to collect animals, plants and fungi observations around the world. Anyone can register and start uploading their observations in the form of photos or audio, and thereby contribute to the nature study. Every year in late April – early May, the iNaturalist platform hosts a competition between cities around the world - the City Nature Challenge, the essence of which is to collect as many observations as possible in a limited time. The number of participating cities is growing every year. Residents of more than 700 cities from all over the world will take part in the City Nature Challenge 2024. For four days from April 26 to 29, participants will photograph plants, fungi and animals in their cities. All these observations must be uploaded to iNaturalist by May 5th. On May 6, the international jury will summarize the results and announce the winners of the city and the participants with the highest number of observations. Karaganda was the first city in Kazakhstan to become a participant in the City Nature Challenge 2024. The tournament organizer in Karaganda is the Biology and Geography Faculty of the Karaganda University named after academician E.A. Buketov. An inter-faculty competition has also been organized. The competition will cover the territory of Karaganda and its suburbs - Maikuduk, Prishakhtinsk, Temirtau, Shakhtinsk, as well as the nearby settlements territories of Gabiden Mustafina, Zhumabek, Botakara, Ushtobe, Kushoky. The City Nature Challenge participation is a unique opportunity for everyone to contribute to the our region nature study. Join us!
