On May 6, 2025, a sports event dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding scientist, academician Evney Buketov and the 85th anniversary of the classic of Kazakh literature, the great writer Mukhtar Magauin was held in the capital of the United States, Washington.As part of the event, a mini-football tournament was held in an open area with the participation of young people from Washington, Virginia and Maryland, as well as fellows of the Bolashak international program. The tournament was attended by 30 people, who were divided into three teams. The games were held in a round robin system. As a result, each team won one victory, scoring 3 points. The tournament ended with a friendly score.Before the event, a small exhibition was organized dedicated to the works of academician Evney Buketov and the works of writer Mukhtar Magauin. A festive dastarkhan was laid for the participants of the competition, fans and families with children, which created an atmosphere of real celebration.It is especially worth noting that young Kazakhs living in the United States were well aware of the life and work of the two great personalities and enthusiastically told local residents about them in English.The combination of sports excitement, scientific and educational atmosphere, delicious Kazakh cuisine and support from family fans gave the event a deep cultural and patriotic meaning.The event made an indelible impression on Umit and Aiganym Magauin, who actively participated in its organization. On behalf of the Magauin Center, they presented special gifts to the participants and expressed the wish that the talent of great personalities would be passed on to the youth.The organizers expressed their gratitude to the Kazakh-American Community and its Chairman Darkhan Damenuly, who made a significant contribution to the successful holding of the event. In his speech, he highly appreciated the cohesion and team spirit of the fellows who arrived in May-June 2024 at George Washington University and thanked them for their active participation in public life.At the end of the event, all active participants and fans were presented with works by Mukhtar Magauin and branded products of Karaganda Buketov University. Commemorative photographs were also taken.The American Kazakh youth who took part in the tournament expressed gratitude for the initiative and expressed a desire to make such competitions traditional and bring them to a higher level. Thus, the main idea of the holiday was the statement: “The names of the great will not sink into oblivion.”
